In such scenario first check wether SQL Server is installed properly or not. If yes then status must be in running mode.

To check for the installation go to Start >> All Program >> Startup >> Service Manager. If you won't find Service Manager then try re-installing the SQL Server Setup.

If You find Service Manager in the given path then click it to have SQL Service Manager window open in front of you. Change the status to "Start" by Clicking the Green button.
